Oxymoral PI Diweg-Pukanec at the International Conference “Returns to the Sources”

The Principal Investigator of the OXYMORAL project, Prof. Diweg-Pukanec, participated in the international conference Returns to the Sources, held on 5 May 2026 at Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra, Slovakia. The event was organized on the occasion of the jubilee of Prof. Marta Keruľová, a distinguished scholar of early Slovak, Latin, and Italian literature. The conference welcomed prominent international participants. In addition to philologists from across the Central European region, several scholars arrived from Naples, where Professor Keruľová had also worked academically.

As the Dean of the Faculty of Arts at Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra was unable to open the conference due to professional obligations, the honor of inaugurating the event was entrusted to the OXYMORAL PI.

Prof. Diweg-Pukanec also delivered a highly innovative paper entitled “The Legend of Saint Svorad and Saint Benedict and the Alleged ‘Vampire’ Grave on Chochel Hill.” The presentation sparked an exceptionally lively discussion involving nearly all conference participants. A journal publication of the paper is expected to appear in the coming months.

In addition, the Principal Investigator of the OXYMORAL project engaged in extensive discussions on vampirism and the semantic interpretation of related texts with the renowned specialist in the field, Giuseppe Maiello. Their scholarly debates continued into the late evening hours, further contributing to the intellectually vibrant atmosphere of the conference.
