Two follow-up projects submitted!!!
Last week OXYMORAL PI, Prof. Diweg-Pukanec submitted two projects to ensure the continuation of semantic studies at the Department of Slavic Philology, Faculty of Arts, Constantine the Philosopher in Nitra, specially in its Semantic Laboratory, after the end of the OXYMORAL project (08/2026).
The first, major project for 2026-2028 is a project entitled „Cross-lingual information retrieval for scientific datasets in less-resourced languages“, to be led by the National Institute for Oriental Languages and Civilizations (INALCO) in Paris, France. Project „CLingS“ introduces several scientific and technological advances beyond the current state of the art, in particular domain-specific multilingual retrieval for less-resourced languages like Slovak. Unlike generic multilingual search systems, „CLingS“ focuses on scientific language, integrating domain-specific embeddings, terminological alignment, and contextualized semantic mapping.
The other, smaller project is a VEGA project for the years 2026-2028 entitled „Phonology, Grammar and Semantics of Old Church Slavic Glosses in Rado’s Bible“. The proposed project is a continuation of the EU-funded Recovery and Resilience Plan project No. 09I03-03-V04-00670, entitled „Inverted Morality: Reversed Semantics in Old Church Slavic Moral Words“ (OXYMORAL), in which the researchers have encountered a number of issues in Old Church Slavic texts and words that require specific solution. Among these issues is meaning of Old Church Slavic glosses found in the Rado’s Bible, preserved in Vienna, namely that south is called „north“ in a translated gloss, storm is called „calm“ in another, and so on. These problems will be addressed through the material and tools collected in the project „Inverted Morality: Inverted Semantics in Old Church Slavonic Moral Words“ in the Semantic Laboratory.
